Best Punta Mita Hotels: Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

In all my years of covering all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, I have never stayed at a Secrets. That seems like sacrilege, given the fierce commitment Secrets fans have to the brand. Fortunately, I was able to rectify the situation in April 2024 when I stayed at the Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort. One of the newest all-inclusive resorts in Punta Mita, this sleek, expansive adults-only resort features 278 guest rooms and suites on a slice of shoreline overlooking the Bay of Banderas.

I am happy to report that I was very pleased with my first Secrets experience. Not only was the hotel beautifully designed, with plenty of activities, restaurants, and pools, but the food was also fantastic, and the people who worked there were among the nicest I’ve ever encountered at a resort.

One of the newest Punta Mita hotels, I recommend this resort for couples who want a stress-free vacation, where all the conveniences and comforts are at their fingertips. If you like beautiful pools, comfy rooms, great food, and service, this is one of the top hotels in Punta Mita.

Guests should note that the property is shared with the family-friendly Dreams Bahia Mita, so while Secrets is adults-only, you will have kids in the vicinity at many of the locations on the property.

Punta Mita Hotels: The Vibe of Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

Arrival at Secrets Bahia Mita Resort & Spa can be a touch overwhelming since the motor lobby area is where guests of both Secrets and Dreams are met. But within just a few minutes of pulling up, we were met by the friendliest staff and promptly escorted to the Secrets lobby, where check-in was a breeze. After being whisked up to our room, we did a quick wardrobe change and headed out to explore the expansive property.

The sleek horseshoe-shaped resort flows down a tropical hillside in tiers leading to the northern shores of the Bay of Banderas. Half of the resort is dedicated to Secrets, meaning it’s adults-only, while the second half of the resort is the Dreams, which is family-friendly. The two halves have mostly separate restaurants and facilities, with some overlap in the center. This is something to consider for adults who are looking for a true adults-only, as you will definitely be within sight and earshot of families at different points during your stay. That said, Secrets has dedicated rooftop pools and restaurants that are far away from the kids. Also, guests at Secrets can dine at the restaurants at Dreams, but not vice-versa.

The resort is large, but not overwhelming, but seeing as it’s two resorts in one you’ll find that you are constantly around people. This is a great thing if you’re looking to be social, however, and meeting people at resorts is something we love to do.

Overall, the vibe at the resort is elevated because of the fantastic staff at this resort. Everyone we encountered met us with a smile and engaging conversation. I can’t say enough good things about the friendliness of the staff at Secrets Bahia Mita.

Punta Mita All-Inclusive Resorts: The Amenities at Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

One thing you'll never lack at Secrets Bahia Mita is something to do. It's a pool-lover's paradise, for starters. Adults have access to the 6th-floor rooftop pool, including a really impressive infinity-edged pool that looks out over the ocean making you feel like you're teetering on the bow of a ship.

Down on the main pool deck, the pools are divided between adults-only and family-friendly, though there is definite noise crossover. Still, that never bothered me and the views from the pools overlooking the ocean are lovely.

The beach is quite small and not ideal for swimming. But Secrets Bahia Mita uses this to their advantage and has created a cool surf program for guests. Guests can rent surfboards and take surf lessons, as the waves right in front of the hotel are some of the best in the area for surfing.

One of my favorite spots was the small outdoor sandy lounge next to the Barracuda bar, which transforms into a snuggly den at night complete with burning outdoor fire pits and soft, glowing light. Perfect for a romantic nightcap.

Hotels in Punta Mita: The Rooms at Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Overall Score: Above Average

Secrets Bahia Mita has 278 rooms and suites. Each has a furnished balcony or terrace. We checked into a Junior Suite, which was 518 square feet and had a king-sized bed. The view was fine. It overlooked the main driveway and some of the jungle, with a sliver of ocean in the distance.

The best rooms to book are the Preferred Club rooms, which have extra perks like access to the lounge and upgraded amenities. These suites also have upgraded views, some with views out over the pool. OceanFront suites are spectacular with spectacular views of the ocean, a private plunge pool, and lots of space.

But we weren't at the resort to stay in the room, so we were perfectly fine with the entry-level category. The bed was supremely comfortable, the AC was great, the WiFi was strong, and there were plenty of outlets.

All-Inclusive Resorts in Punta Mita: The Dining at Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

Dining at an all-inclusive resort can be hit or miss, but I am happy to report that Secrets Bahia Mita's culinary program is a HIT. The food here was absolutely wonderful, from the abundant buffet breakfast to the poolside fare to the specialty restaurants.

Our absolute favorite was a French restaurant, Bordeaux, which was a surprise to us as we don't usually crave French food. But we loved Bordeaux so much that we went two nights in a row. The salmon and the beef filet are outstanding. We also ate at the Italian restaurant, Portofino and the pasta was fantastic.

I wish I had more time to check out Tacoyotl Taqueria, which looked like my kind of place. Instead, we opted for Olio at the 6th-floor pool. It was good, but I heard that their dinner tasting menu is where the real magic happens. Also up on the 6th floor is a takeaway sushi counter, which serves rolls and sashimi and I highly recommend you stop by for a roll or two to-go.

Punta Mita Hotels: The Wellness at Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

A hotel gym is extremely important to me, and the one at Secrets Bahia Mita was fantastic. It features brand-new cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. Unfortunately, I didn’t try the spa so I can’t speak to that, but Secrets brand is known for its spas overall, particularly the hydrotherapy circuits.
